Saber Marionette J takes place on a futuristic planet called 'Terra 2'. Terra 2 is populated only by men, meaning they survive by cloning.
To fill the absence of no women, the people of Terra 2 create lifeless androids called 'marrionettes'. These marionettes are liveless, and only seem to be good for cooking, cleaning, and other jobs.
A young martial artist, Otaru Mamiya, is pushed into a river by his 'friend' Hanngatta and sent down the river to an abandoned pioneer museum. While exploring the museum, he stumbles onto a young marionette called 'Lime'. Lime is no ordinary marionette, she possesses a rare chip called a 'maiden circut' which allows her to be life-like.
Soon after finding Lime, Otaru finds two other marionettes who also possess this special chip; Cherry and Bloodberry.
Now Otaru must learn to live with and feed three human-like marionettes, and also convince the people that they are not 'defective'. While fighting off the love struck Hannagatta.
